Presentation at 6:30 PM and
Confessions at 7:15 PM
Join us for a special walk through Advent with Father Christopher Zugger, from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church. Using insights from both the Byzantine and Latin Rites, we will embark on a special journey to meet the Christ Child, His Blessed Mother, and His Protector, Saint Joseph so as to prepare well for the great feast of Christmas.
Day 1, Monday, December 9th: God wishes to come to each one of us
Opening:
O Savior, Heaven's Portals Rend (Dorian Chant, 17th century)
Why did God come?
How God chose to come? To
whom does God come this year? And why do we even have an Advent season?
The convergence of Lent and Advent: Jesus Christ does this for
me, each and every one of us.
Closing:
God Is With Us (Byzantine chant from Christmas Eve)
Day 2, Tuesday, December 10th: Walking with our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph
Opening:
Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming (Theodore Baker version, 1894)
Christ is from the Root of Jesse: why does that matter?
The Christmas Novena of Las Posadas brings alive the trek of Saint Joseph with his pregnant wife and the difficulties of their journey. They knew the challenges and hardships of life, and so did their Son, the God-Man. We focus often of the Virgin and Child, but why is Saint Joseph important?
O Antiphons: Tomorrow I come. How does He want to come?
Closing:
O Come, O Come Emmanuel ( O Antiphons)
Day 3, Wednesday, December 11th: Born in a Manger in the House of Bread: God is with us!
Opening:
Maria Walks A mid the Thorn (16th century)
The Visitation and its powerful significance for us now.
Unpacking the mystery of His birth: why in Bethlehem, symbolism of the manger, why the Magi and the shepherds, the meaning of the three gifts. We can discover how Jesus speaks to us as Holy Child, Lamb of God, King of Kings, Divine Physician, and in our Holy Communion.
Closing:
A deste Fideles (English and Latin)
