Confirmation

As mandated by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, Our Lady of Fatima Parish has a two-year program of preparation for the
Sacrament of Confirmation for youth. 

Year 1

Year 1, known as the “Pre-Confirmation Year” is for students who are in the 8th grade through the 11th grade who are not attending/did not attend 8th grade in a Roman Catholic School. Pre-Confirmation prepares the candidate in Catholic doctrine and in the spirituality of the Sacrament of Confirmation. 

Year 2

Year 2, known as the “Confirmation Year,” is for students from 9th grade to 12th grade who have completed the Pre-Confirmation program or have been promoted from the 8th grade of a Catholic School the previous year. To participate in the Confirmation Year and receive Confirmation, a student must be under 18 years of age on the date on which the Sacrament is conferred.

Registrations are now being accepted for both the Year 1 and Year 2 Confirmation Program. Candidates in Year 2 will be confirmed in April/May of 2025. There is a registration/book fee for both Year 1 & 2 to help defray the cost of books and supplies. The fee may be reduced or waived in cases of financial hardship. Registrations are now being accepted in the parish office and must be submitted no later than August 28th, 2024. 

In order to be registered for Confirmation, parents will need to fill out a registration form and provide the following:

• Non-Refundable $75.00 Book fee in cash or check for Active OLF Parishioners
• Non-Refundable $100.00 Book fee in cash or check for Inactive/Non-parishioners
• A copy of the student’s Baptism Certificate.
• A copy of the students First Communion Certificate.
• A copy of the 8th grade promotion certificate from the Catholic School the student was promoted from, if applicable.
• The student's sponsor name and affidavit. All sponsors are subject to approval by the Pastor and must meet the requirements of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Parents of the child to be confirmed CANNOT be sponsors.
• The Confirmation name their child is choosing.

Both Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation classes will normally be held twice a month on Sundays. Students are to:

• Attend 10:00 AM Mass at Our Lady of Fatima on the scheduled class days (Mandatory). Students cannot be excused from 10:00 AM Mass because they attend another Mass time.
• Attendance is taken at Mass, families and students must sit together in an assigned area and please note that only three absences are allowed and all required course work is still due.
• After Mass, students must attend all scheduled classes in Fatima-Gallagher Hall after Mass from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
• The first class will meet on Sunday, September 15th, 2024. Parents must be in attendance for this first meeting.

Class Times

For the Pre-Confirmation year there will be 18 class sessions. For the Confirmation year there will be 16 class sessions including the Confirmation retreat on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Students in both Confirmation classes will also be required to participate in a Community Service Project for Las Posadas on December 8, 2024. A schedule of classes and a list of requirements will be provided at the time of registration at the parish office. We do not have a scheduled Confirmation date from the Archdiocese at this time. We should know by December and as soon as that date is set, we will email you the information.
